What is it?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Members of a CSA invest in the farm early, while costs are high for the farmer, and then receive 'shares' of the harvest throughout the season. While traditional CSA's offer an abundance of produce, our Farmstead Shares will offer all of the products we are producing for our own family, with the same high standards. A CSA is more than an exchange of goods, it's a relationship with your farmer and knowing the story behind every product.
How will it work?
The best part about the Farmstead CSA- it's customizable. You'll be able to add on the items that work for you! Sign up for your share of produce and you'll have the option to add on eggs and meat. Every other Wednesday from May 30th until October 17th, shares will be available for pick-up at our farm in Mercersburg. A newsletter will be sent out at the beginning of the week, letting you know what to expect and offering some recipes. Another drop off is possible in Chambersburg, depending on turnout.
***You asked, we listened! Not only is there a drop off location now in Chambersburg, there is also the option for eggs and meat only! Please see the sign up sheet for details.***
What to expect?
Every share will be different and contain produce from our own gardens. In the spring, members will enjoy fresh greens, radishes, beets, snap peas, cabbage, rhubarb, and strawberries. Summer will bring favorites such as heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, beans and squash. Heading into fall we'll harvest the storage vegetables like garlic, onions, potatoes, carrots, turnips and winter squash. Members can also expect fresh herbs and cut flowers throughout the season! Every year, and every season, presents it's own challenges; therefore, no crop can be guaranteed. We will strive to offer a variety of favorites along with some more unique items at every pick up. Members will have the option of adding duck eggs, pastured chicken and pork, grass fed lamb and Thanksgiving turkeys!
